Day before the Fourth. Slept in the "yurt", and was awakened early in the morning by a radio call from Crater Lake to base camp. Apparently, a bear was chowing down on a bear bag that it got into. The bear researcher was called in to investigate.
Back at Whiteman Vega, a few of us woke up and climbed up to the ridge to get a better view of both Baldy Mountain, which is the tallest peak at Philmont, and Little Costilla, which is off the ranch but taller than Baldy.
We had to leave early to get back in time for work. It also rained last night, making the mountain biking conditions poor. So, we didn't get to mountain bike... this time. I'll be back. On our way to the car, a herd of cattle passed by. They mooed a lot.
