Hike-turned-trip to Raton

Our original plan was to hike up to Urraca Mesa, which is directly opposite of the Tooth of Time. We were going to stay at the staffed camp up there, catch dinner and breakfast, and listen to ghost stories about the haunted mesa and surrounding area. Sounded like a good time, right? Well, two others (who supposedly knew where they were going) tagged along and went the wrong way. We ran out of sunlight, were being eaten by mosquitoes, and decided to turn back. Yes, it was disappointing, but we were adults and sucked it up. We decided to "crash the canyon" and sit on some rocks in the river until sundown. Then we went to get milkshakes and tater tots at Sonic in Raton. Not a bad night after all.
